Brothers,

As you read this, our undergrads are renewing the age-old practice of replacing themselves – ah yes, Rush! Formal Rush begins today and the brothers of Phi Kappa Psi have a lot to be excited about.

This summer, we completed another phase of the Centennial Campaign construction. The changes  were the first focussed on the outside of the House. 720 Elm has a new, clean look – you’re going to love it! In this issue, we’ll share some photos and details of our new look and recap the 5th annual alumni golf tournament (AKA “Fast Times at Ole Phi Psi”) and the Summer Board Meeting. Renovations UpdateBrother Greg Ward (’85) oversaw the most visible changes of the Centennial Campaign renovations this summer. This was the 3rd phase of a 5-phase approach.

Improvements included:  Remove and replace sidingInsulate house (Tyvek wrapped)Paint house and all brick (including front wall)Add ADA ramp back doorAffix letters on the wallHard wire all smoke detectors 2nd floorRepair and replace all soffits, facia and boards on outside of houseRepair and replace sun deck

“One of the first things you notice is how quiet it is. You can’t hear the road noise”, said Greg Ward during our recent Board Meeting. The new double-pane windows will provide energy efficiency and sound dampening from the outside world. It makes the library a quiet place to get some studies done.

The little details you don’t immediately notice will make a big impact. Exterior and interior lighting is now more efficient LED lighting. Most lights are on sensors, providing security and automatic shut off.

Also the construction crew installing the siding were required to take a course on Tyvek wrapping to ensure that every inch of the exterior was sealed properly with the vapor barrier. The siding also came with a required course to ensure the insulated panels were installed correctly.

The sun deck now sports a new rail that is up to code. Believe it or not the old one was not even bolted down. Water now runs away from under the deck ensuring we won’t have the leaks and wood rot problems we suffered from previously.

Brother Ward will provide alumni a tour of all the renovations during our alumni luncheon weekend.

To fund the construction, we rely on our donors. Unlike most fundraisers, we are getting work done BEFORE we raise ALL the money. We have gotten by so far through the amazing support from you, our donors – and without having to borrow money. We’ve front-loaded our commitments to make this happen and could use your help to fund our progress. All donations are tax free through the University of Oklahoma Foundation and can be spread out over 5 years. The Foundation sends you receipts by mail and all donations are reserved for the campaign and renovations associated with it.

We still have just under $500,000 left to raise and require much of that up front to satisfy our project plans and University requirements. We have just under 3 years of our 5-year campaign left. Please take a look at your options. This year’s outing was held in a scramble format at the Brent Buhl Golf Course in Purcell. Taking home the trophy this year, with 9 under par, were Bros. Copeland, Warren, & Sharbutt. Next years’ tournament will be August 11th, 2018. We are also excited to host the OU v. TCU cookout Nov. 11 at the newly renovated chapter house. More details to come. Jeff D. Scott

OK Alpha 1347…Housing Corp. Board MeetingOn Saturday August 12th, we had our Summer Board Meeting at the Chapter House. Thirteen brothers were in attendance. The theme for the meeting and the upcoming semester is “Continuity & Growth”. We’ve made amazing progress on so many fronts. We’ve increased the Chapter size, made good on 52 of our 55 commitments to the University, managed to keep our noses clean with no “incidents” and continue to fund our Centennial Campaign.

We welcome brother Tony Say (’75) to our Housing Corporate Board and look forward to having more new blood and ideas. Mark Your CalendarSave the following dates and please join us: First Day of School, Fall Semester at OU – Monday, August 21stFall Board Meeting / Alumni Luncheon (Iowa State Game) – Saturday, October 7thOklahoma Alumni Association OU v.
